The idea for Dog Poop Health Check came from our two Groodle dogs, Ziggy and Alfie. We absolutely love our dogs — Ziggy was adopted from the RSPCA here in Australia, and Alfie came to us from a traveller. When Alfie first arrived, he was severely malnourished, but within a month he'd gained nearly a third of his body weight. During that time, we noticed an incredible variety of poops in our yard, each telling a different story about his health.
Having had a passion for all technology, we were curious to see what the latest AI could do to help pet owners understand their dogs' health better. That curiosity kick-started the first version of our app. After numerous iterations, tests, and even building Core ML models trained on over 10,000 stool images, we found that the most reliable and consistent results came from the latest generation of Cloud AI systems.
Once we had nailed the analysis feature, we realised we needed a journal to track each dog's health journey. This became one of our favourite features and is now evolving into the features for the journal app.
We've also added features such as custom palettes, widgets and plan to expand to watchOS, continuing to develop and improve the app features just for our users, we use it every day ourselves. We've kept the subscription model simple and affordable, because we believe in value for money and want to make regular updates accessible for everyone.
